Galvanized to PEX Upgrade | St Albans, Melbourne

Old galvanized pipes finally gave up on this St Albans property. The line burst — no water, big mess. We came in, ripped out the old rusty system, and put in fresh PEX throughout.

Job done properly. No shortcuts.

The Problem

The home had the original galvanized steel pipes still running through it. These things were well past their use-by date.

Classic signs the owners were dealing with:

Low water pressure throughout the house
Rusty-looking water coming from the taps
A pipe that eventually burst and killed the water supply completely

Galvanized pipes corrode from the inside out. You can patch them all you like but eventually the whole system needs to go.

What We Did

Pulled out all the old galvanized lines and replaced everything with PEX piping.

PEX is flexible, tough, and built to last. No rust, no corrosion — miles better than what was in there.

Here’s the full breakdown:

Full pipe replacement — old galvanized out, new PEX in throughout the property
PLV install — fitted a Pressure Limiting Valve to protect the new pipes from mains pressure spikes
Reconnected all fixtures — worked through the crawl space to hook everything back up properly
Hand dug and backfilled — dug by hand where needed, cleaned up the site on the way out
